If watching The Elephant Diaries doesn’t make you cry, I don’t know what will. This show kept me glued to the couch for nearly two hours of back-to-back episodes featuring baby elephant rescues and the challenges faced with saving their lives. It’s incredible what these caring people do in order to protect this intelligent and gentle species from extinction. Caretakers assigned to the baby elephants spend nearly all day and night with them. This includes sleeping in their stalls in order to make sure the babies aren’t lonely or in need of immediate medical attention. Those incredible people deserve gold medals for their boundless devotion to these sweet elephants. The orphans wear cute little blankets to protect them from coming down with pneumonia. While it makes them look adorable, it’s important to keep them warm. I had mixed emotions during this show since I understand that many of these animals are orphans due to poaching. In turn, it’s frustrating to know that CITES recently approved sale of ivory stockpiles which will fuel further poaching of elephants. I’m encouraged to use my Safari gold wine charms in order to show my love and support for the wildlife in Africa. Oh, and I get the elephant charm! No arguing about it folks. I also just signed an online petition to stop the sale of the ivory and hope I’ve convinced you to do the same. Also, go online to winerackstore.com and buy a wine rack while you’re at it.
