Every summer I look forward to spending a day at the Grays Harbor County Fair. It’s a great opportunity to see adorable animals, shows, and enjoy carnival rides. The fairgrounds will be open from August 6-10. I am not a fan of the carnival rides but do enjoy the assortment of farm animals and numerous booths full of artery clogging foods. Last year I devoured two bags of mini donuts covered in cinnamon and sugar, an overloaded baked potato, cotton candy, elephant ears, and french fries. After stuffing our faces, my son and I spent around one hour in the mini petting zoo area. The tortoises were our favorite, along with the sweet but portly miniature horse. In fact, that horse was only interested in one thing: food pellets from jelly bean type dispensers. The little guy would lean up against my leg while I dropped the last of my quarters into the slot. I must have spent around $5 on food for those critters. It was worth it, but I do feel a bit sorry for them since they spend all day being mauled by kids. Not all parents teach their little ones how to pet the animals gently. News flash to those parents: those animals don’t exist for your kid to pull on or aggressively smother. Usually the animal handlers are good about educating those children that the small animals aren’t robots covered in fur. I’ll stop the ranting for now. On to more pressing matters, like what I will wear this year. Firstly, I am inspired by the new Wine Gold/Green charms. The colors are gorgeous and bright, I need to wear something complimentary. In fact, the perfect accessories are huge glamorous sunglasses and a wine glass adorned with a charm. I’ll have to be cautious since I’ll look like a incognito celebrity just stepping out for the day to slum with the mere mortals.
